Bringing order to the neurophysiological chaos underlying sensory processing dysfunction in schizophrenia
نویسنده
چکیده
There is compelling evidence that sensory processing impairments contribute to the cognitive and psychosocial dysfunction affecting the majority of schizophrenia (SZ) patients. An informative probe for sensory processing dysfunction in neuropsychiatric disorders is event-related potentials (ERPs) time-locked to presentations of deviant stimuli interspersed in a train of standard tones, which elicits a response complex dominated by two peaks, labeled mismatch negativity (MMN) and P3a positivity. Conventional approaches to electrocephalogram (EEG) analysis do not access the full wealth of information

Neurobiology of Disease Magnocellular Pathway Impairment in Schizophrenia: Evidence from Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Sensory processing deficits in schizophrenia have been documented for several decades, but their underlying neurophysiological substrates are still poorly understood. In the visual system, the pattern of pathophysiology reported in several studies is suggestive of dysfunction within the magnocellular visual pathway beginning in early sensory cortex or even subcortically. The present study used ...

Background: Abilities of sensory processes are underlying of effectiveness responding to situation, facilitate to learning, social behavior, and daily function. So, sensory processing disorders might have influence on daily life. The aim of this study was to present some of modification methods and environment accommodation and adapting with children characteristics with sensory processing. Met...

Neurophysiological investigations in patients with schizophrenia consistently show early sensory processing deficits in the visual system. Importantly, comparable sensory deficits have also been established in healthy first-degree biological relatives of patients with schizophrenia and in first-episode drug-naive patients. The clear implication is that these measures are endophenotypic, related...
متن کاملThe associations between multisensory temporal processing and symptoms of schizophrenia.
Recent neurobiological accounts of schizophrenia have included an emphasis on changes in sensory processing. These sensory and perceptual deficits can have a cascading effect onto higher-level cognitive processes and clinical symptoms. One form of sensory dysfunction that has been consistently observed in schizophrenia is altered temporal processing. In this study, we investigated temporal proc...

Schizophrenia is increasingly being viewed as a "whole brain" disorder with deficits affecting widespread cortical and subcortical networks. Within this context, studies of visual cortical function may be particularly important both because visual processing deficits directly affect social and occupational function and because these systems are well characterized at the basic science level, per...
